Phrasal Verb: own up

Definition: confess – colloquial; to tell (someone) that you have done something wrong, or that you are at fault

Examples:

  • It will be much better in the long run if you own up.
  • Someone should own up to doing it, before an innocent person gets accused.
  • Even though the teacher insisted she wasn’t angry, none of the students would own up to breaking her computer.
