Definition: to invent, sometimes with the purpose of deception

Examples:

  • When I was in front of the professors, my mind went blank and I had to make up an answer.
  • My mom wondered why I wasn’t going to spend Christmas with her, so I made up an excuse.
  • My dad was angry that I wrecked the car, so I made up a story that someone hit me.
